Culture of Jiu Jitsu RULES AND EXPECTATIONS
-
No street shoes on the mat.
-
No bare feet off the mats. Bring flip-flops or shoes to wear when you leave the mat space.
-
Respect yourself, others, and your facility.
-
Do not attend class when you are sick and potentially contagious. If you’re ill, feverish, running nose, skin irritations, etc. please stay home.
-
Respect the tap.
-
Always release a submission as soon as your opponent taps to signal to stop. Training in jiu-jitsu is based on mutual respect and keeping our training partners safe.
-
“Tap early and tap often” as the saying goes. If you are caught in a submission, tap, and prevent unnecessary damage to your body, and try again.
-
Hygiene: wash your gi after each class, trim your nails, and help keep the gym sanitary. Please report any rashes or skin conditions to coaches. Skin infections are common in grappling and have the potential to spread very fast.
-
Wear appropriate outfits for jiu-jitsu. Everyone must wear an undergarment while in gi pants.
-
Males must wear rash guards under the gi top.
-
Women, please wear rash guards or a tight-fitting t-shirt. In grappling art, clothes can shift around, so tight-fitting clothes are usually best.
-
Parents/Guardians are responsible for their children.
-
Remove all jewelry (such as earrings and finger/nose rings), watches, and loose-fitting necklaces and bracelets prior to the start of the class as they tend to get caught on clothing and could rip away from your body/person causing injury or bodily harm.
-
Please keep noise in the viewing area to a minimum to ensure an effective training environment.
-
Spectators are to be respectful of the coaches and allow them to provide the training. It can be challenging to run a class with several people shouting from the viewing area. Because of this, outside coaching is discouraged.
STUDENT BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS
A large part of martial arts is discipline. As coaches at Culture of Jiu Jitsu, it is our goal to teach respectful behavior and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu skills. To ensure that all students can participate in a respectful, safe, and fun environment, we’ve set forth these expectations for our school.
-
Show up on time for class
-
Listen to instructor and actively participate in class*
-
Focus on the task at hand
-
Show respect for your training partners
-
Treat the facility with respect
*If a child continues to have disrespectful behavior and is unwilling to listen, we will reserve the right to remove them from class to be seated with the parent/guardian.
Our goal is to create a fun and competitive learning environment for all kids to grow and become better at Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts.
